How to Transition Your Skin Care Routine From Winter to Spring

Your skin is your body’s largest organ, so you want to take care of it. The different seasons can affect your skin in different ways, which means you need to make skincare adjustments throughout the year.

At Natural Body Spa & Shop, we’re a team of skin experts who know how to evaluate your skin type and guide you on treating it throughout the year. The goal is to maintain its optimal health and appearance, but where do you start?

When you schedule an appointment at our spa, we begin by assessing your skin goals. Then we work with you to put a plan in motion to keep your skin healthy all year long. After taking a close look at your skin, we can determine what it needs to stay fully nourished.

We provide routine treatments for you that include facials, advanced facials, and signature body therapies that keep your skin rejuvenated and refreshed continually no matter the season. We also provide attention for your hands and feet that not only hydrate them but relax you.

Practicing healthy habits at home can help you maintain the health of your skin as well. Our recommendations include:

Exfoliate

When you gently slough off your dead skin cells, the healthy ones underneath are revealed. During the winter months, you typically keep your body wrapped in layers of clothing, which doesn’t allow your skin to shed as much. Exfoliation gives it the extra boost it needs.

Be sure to use an exfoliant that’s not too coarse. If you have oily skin, use a charcoal exfoliant to soak up any excess oil your skin produces. If you have dry skin, choose a creamy option that has a moisturizing base.

We also encourage you to exfoliate at night before you go to bed because your cells experience turnover while you’re sleeping.

Change your moisturizer

Cold, windy weather in the winter can dry out your skin. Use a thick moisturizer to keep your skin well hydrated. As you transition into spring, the arrival of warm, humid weather calls for a lighter formula.

For example, alpha and beta hydroxy can keep your skin hydrated while still letting it breathe. You don’t want to smother your skin.

To prevent your skin from premature aging from the sun, use a moisturizer that contains sun protection factor (SPF). Your day cream should range between 15 and 20. If you’re going to be more exposed to the sun, then make sure it has 30-40 SPF.
