Natural Body Team Attends Primavera Life Grand Opening of New Headquarters in Germany
Three members of the Natural Body team visited Oy-Mittleberg, Germany in May for a dual 25 year anniversary and grand opening celebration of Primavera Life's new off the grid headquarters. Cici Coffee, founder and CEO, Celia Tully, Chief Marketing Officer and Elizabeth Newsome, Natural Body Decatur aesthetician attended the three day event.
Natural Body introduced Primavera to customers in the fall of 2010 after extensive vetting of the company and its products. "We feel that we have found a top notch product line in Primavera. The company's philosophy and ours are in sync, and we are so pleased to offer this line through our services and retail shops," said Cici Coffee. Primavera's products are all NaTrue certified, one of the most comprehensive and rigorous certification standards recognized internationally. Coffee went on to say that "we were honored to be invited to attend the grand opening of their new headquarters and be a part of their 25th anniversary celebration."
A paradise of well-being
Because well-being is one of the fundamental commitments of the company, the new Primavera headquarters in Oy-Mittelberg promotes a sense of health and happiness through its unique architecture and environmentally-minded concept. The building is inspired by the vision of co-founder Kurt Nubling, as well as the company philosophy, and the principles of sustainability and feng shui. The new address, No. 1 Natural Paradise, indicates to staff and that they have arrived at nature's utmost paradise.
Following two years of construction, the company has now moved into its new headquarters. It is Germany's first administrative and production facility of this size to systematically use sustainable building practices while considering feng shui and energy flows — in harmony with nature and achieving a balance between the different elements. For Nubling, the eco-friendly technologies incorporated at the new site are part of a living corporate philosophy: "The building has been designed with a sense of total well-being in mind, to be experienced both inside and on the grounds. It helps people work effectively by exuding positive energy and creating an atmosphere where all employees feel at ease. Nothing in the building or its surroundings should interfere with the flow of energy."
This energy can be sensed as soon as you enter the building through the large foyer, which acts as its "lungs," where life-giving energy accumulates. Inspired by nature, Kurt and his team reused the soil from the excavation for the building's foundation to form gentle hills on the grounds. The building's construction has thus created more natural habitat for surrounding plants and animals, culminating in the PRIMAVERA aroma garden which is already home to thousands of fragrant healing plants. There are plans to expand the garden over the next year.
Intelligent Design, Financial Savings
Intelligent use of energy and environmental management remains exemplary at the new site and were not just a factor during the construction phase, but continue to be in place to support its ongoing operations. A solar power system uses the sun as an inexhaustible source of renewable energy and the building is architecturally designed to optimally harness solar power for use in all areas of the building.
To heat the premises, Nubling had complete confidence in the idea of utilizing the heat of the sun and the heat output by workers and machinery. This was implemented by installing an intelligent heating system: The building is heated as required by an infrared heating system combined with solar power, a heat recovery system and an air heat exchanger—a sustainable, energy-neutral approach that consumes no fossil fuels. The offices can maintain a comfortable working climate without depending on outside energy sources; in fact, "leftover" energy that is created by the Primavera systems is actually given back to the German energy grid to be used elsewhere.
Two good reasons to celebrate
On May 21-22, a large-scale celebration was held to inaugurate the new company headquarters in the foothills of Germany's Alpine region, the Bavarian Alps. Visitors were able to explore the fascinating world of essential oils. A distillation demonstration with background information gave visitors insight into their work with essential oils. There was an exhibition about the company's history, and lots of interesting information on Primavera's organic producers worldwide. During the inauguration of the new building, Primavera celebrated its 25th anniversary with the theme "Joy of life, light and aroma"—something that anyone visiting the new premises will immediately recognize.

Wonder why certain things in life give you such a rush, and are so addictive? Many activities that alter brain neurotransmitters like serotonin and epinephrine stimulate the sympathetic nervous system make you feel really good (at least at the time........) because they take away pain and give you a sense of euphoria. Examples- Driving really fast, alcohol, athletic competition, skydiving, certain drugs, and sex.
Why does exercise seem addictive to some people and not to others? Simple. It takes 30 minutes of exercise before the brain-altering substances kick in enough to feel that "high". Those people who are addicted have probably gotten use to the discomfort of starting an exercise session because they know the "BUZZ" that lies ahead and are looking forward to it. Aerobic exercise also increases neurogenesis in the brain, aiding your brain in memory and in repair of injuries, while preventing alzheimer's and dementia.
Practical Advice: Find a friend you enjoy exercising with so you can get through that first uncomfortable period.
- Get an MP3 player or Ipod and mix up some exercise tunes.
- Go to a picturesque locale that is enjoyable and takes your mind off the task ahead.
- Get in a class or work with a trainer you enjoy.
- I would never recommend doing something you hate! The key is finding a way to enjoy exercising long enough until you get addicted.
As a side note, after a hard workout or when you’re recovering from an injury one of the best ways to rejuvenate and get back to 100% is with a deep tissue or sports massage. Massage is one of the most underrated ways to recover and prevent injuries, as well as release natural “feel-good” endorphins. BE SUN SAVVY:
One of the greatest challenges of creating safe UV protection is balancing performance, texture and feel, and body-friendly ingredients. With the proposed changes to the FDA’s sunscreen guidelines still waiting approval, companies are labeling sun protective products with claims that, according to the Environmental Working Group’s 2009 Sunscreen Investigation, could not possibly be true.
BE SUN SMART:
Until the FDA guidelines are updated and consumers are finally provided more information on product labels to guide their purchases, companies are free to sell products that would be considered misbranded if the guidelines were already in place. So why do so many mass manufactured lines continue to use misleading marketing terms, such as “waterproof”, “sweatproof”, and “continuous protection”? Clearly, the lack of regulation has resulted in far too many exaggerated and inaccurate claims in advertising and labeling to gain market share. What’s a confused consumer to do?!
We’ve compiled our 2011 TOP TIPS for reading a sunscreen bottle to help you better understand what’s INSIDE!
Know how to spot common misleading claims:
Products claiming waterproof, hypoallergenic, dermatologist-approved, 8 hour or All-day/continuous protection, and/or Chemical Free, should make the consumer skeptical. According to the FDA, the above mentioned claims are unacceptable. If the brand is careless with their marketing lingo, how can we trust other claims for legitimacy as well? Do you want these products in your home or beach bag?
Look for recognized claims by the FDA and claims that can be substantiated with numbers, such as Clinically Tested, Water Resistant (up to 40 minutes) or Very Water Resistant (up to 80 minutes). While dermatologist approved sounds comforting, most dermatologists are not set up to perform stability, skin compatibility and UVA testing. It is the responsibility of the brand to ensure that the proper testing protocol is completed in independent, clinical labs and these results are transparent to the consumer.
Read the Ingredient labels carefully:
The FDA requires over-the-counter manufacturers to disclose a complete active and inactive ingredient list on all SPF packaging. It doesn’t take long to spot the common cosmetic ingredients that are widely recognized as possibly carcinogens, endocrine disruptors, and allergens. (oxybenzone -also written as benzophenone-3, methylparaben, propylparaben, ethylparaben, propylene glycol, synthetic fragrances, dyes).
Check to see if their products contain any ingredients on the SIN (Substitute it Now!) list. The International Chemical Secretariat organization provides this list of 356 chemicals identified as substances of very high concern based on the criteria established by the new EU chemical regulation. These ingredients should be avoided in all cosmetics and sunscreens are no different. Where you’ll find one, you’ll often find many, so be sure to be a good label detective.
Look for SPF 30+ in combination with UVA Active Ingredients
The FDA currently has no regulations about what degree of UVA protection a sunscreen must provide in the U.S. to be able to make the claim of “UVA/UVB” or “Broad-Spectrum”, so you won’t know how much protection you are actually getting by reading these claims on the bottle. Look for either Avobenzone (Parsol 1789) or alternatively, look for the whole particle physical blocks, Titanium Dioxide and Zinc. And remember, SPF numbers refer only to the ability to protect from UVB rays —they tell you nothing about UVA protection.
Finally, a few last words as a sunscreen manufacturer and a mom of two: While the challenge will continue for us to push for innovation in creating safe UV protection that meets European standards with beneficial natural ingredients, the challenge will continue for consumers to read and understand the labels, and make a commitment to form healthy habits that include everyday use of safe suncare products. For us, total brand transparency is a must. For our consumers, read your labels and ask questions. Together we can prioritize our health, the health of our environment and safely, enjoy the warmer weather ahead!
