When I experience muscle pain, how do I determine whether to use ice or heat on the area?

Rule of thumb. When in doubt, use ice. Sharp pain indicates an acute condition. Ice is indicated. Complaints of tension and stiffness tend to be more chronic or situational conditions. In these cases MOIST heat is indicated. Beware! Dry heat can worsen a condition, so be sure there is some form of moisture accompanying the heat source.

I struggle with acne and tend to be oily in the T-zone yet other areas of my face are extremely dry. How could I be oily and dry at the same time?

This is actually very common. In an effort to treat the acne, people will often select products that are "drying" to address there "oily condition." However, many so called "oily conditions" are not oily at all. They are dry.

Let me explain. If your skin is dry, the body will naturally produce enough oil to compensate. However, if the skin is congested (clogged pores) and does not allow the oils to surface and re-hydrate the skin, it will continue to produce oil that becomes stuck under the skin surface, thus creating the acneaic condition. That is why it is important exfoliate the skin regularly and have facials throughout the year. We recommend a non-mechanical (grainy) exfoliator for acneaic and sensitive skins.

I have recently been diagnosed with a herniated disc in my low back. What types of massage would be best tailored to help alleviate the pain associated with my problem?

Herniated lumbar discs are unfortunately a common problem. You would be best suited to seek out a massage therapist who is proficient in sports and deep tissue massage as they will be able to incorporate specific trigger point releases along with passive stretching while performing your massage. Yoga is also very beneficial for those with spinal problems.

Why don't the estheticians at Natural Body apply make up to clients after a facial?

It is our belief that during a facial, the skin in deeply cleansed, exfoliated and hydrated, therefore, we want to optimize your skins ability to absorb the nutrients used during the facial. Furthermore, when using make up, we recommend mineral make up or a natural alternative that allows the skin to breath and also provides a natural sun block.

Why do Natural Body products so heavily emphasize sea algae and other minerals derived from the sea?

The salt water in the oceans is naturally healing due to the salt content and the heavy concentrations of minerals and nutrients. Algae is a very potent detoxifier and helps to remineralize skin, thus, returning vitality to the skin.
